Catherine of Aragon
Catherine (or Katherine) of Aragon (1485–1536) was the first wife of the Tudor king Henry VIII, who she married on 11 June 1509 shortly before his coronation. Catherine was previously married to Henry's brother, Prince Arthur, the eldest son of King Henry VII of England, but Arthur died shortly after the wedding. Catherine fell pregnant six times between 1510 and 1518 but only one child survived - a daughter called Mary, who would later become queen of England. Catherine of Aragon was famously cast aside in favour of her lady-in-waiting, Anne Boleyn, after almost 24 years of marriage. Henry's desire to divorce Catherine in order to marry Anne in 1533 helped bring about the English Reformation. Catherine died on 7 January 1536
